When equipment and resources are not in use please consider how you store them for your safety and that of others. Keeping things organised and tidy will make all our lives easier when trying to locate what we need for a job.
Storing equipment on the bike
When storing equipment in the bike, generally think about how you pack the bike. You will be given training on where things tend to best fit. But general rules:
- Keep the weight close to the centre of the bike so you keeping things balanced
- Put heavier items at the bottom of the bike
- Make sure all its are secured down before you ride the bike
- Keep lighter items to the front end of the box on the bike
- Bike stands and A frames can be secured on top of other equipment last
- Always good to keep some business cards handy in the little holder on the handlebars for easy access as well as an inner tube for the cargo bike
Storing equipment while working on site
When storing equipment on site, consider the space you are working in, where you park the bike and what equipment you use most frequently.
- Use equipment to create natural barriers between you and the public so you have a space to work and will not get interrupted - use A-Frame, table, and even the cargo bike itself
- Keep all equipment and tools tidy and organised, a messy workspace is unsafe and doesn’t look good. Think about this as your kitchen and everyone is watching, would you go to a restaurant that was messy with open containers and dirty cutlery, NO so keep your tools and supplies tidy.
- Screw lids tightly on bottles
- Store unused equipment in the cargo bike
- Keep tools packed away when not in use
Storing equipment at the Ride Clean Hub
The Ride Clean Hub is a shared workspace and it is everyone’s responsibility to keep it organised and tidy.
- It is expected that everyone will empty rubbish at the end of their shift and sort rags from other rubbish for recycling
- Bottles must be refilled with bike cleaner and degreaser and re-stocked
- Store bottle upright to prevent leaking
- Refill bags with rags
- Pack down any empty cardboard boxes from rags or other things
- Chargers for bike batteries and splosh washes will be stored in the garage
- Keep things labelled and organised so others can find and use things easily.
